Supporting Autism Research through Els for Autism

Three years ago, ADC expanded our “Cuffs for a Cause” campaign to include a puzzle piece design, the globally recognized symbol of autism awareness. Since that time, we’ve donated several thousand dollars to Els for Austim and their Florida-based Els Center for Excellence, which provides therapy and education for hundreds of children. Since launching our collaboration, ADC has expanded this product line to include several themed Pros’ Combo kits and a patterned MiniMedicut shear, and we’ve increased to 10% the amount we donate from the sale of these products. It’s one way we, as a company, work toward our goal of bettering the world we live in.

According to the Els for Autism web site, www.elsforautism.org, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurobiological disorder characterized by deficits in social communication and social interaction as well as restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities. It’s the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S., with one in 68 children the U.S. affected.

Later this month, April 28-29, 2017, Els for Autism will be convening an inaugural conference to discuss the state of the science in autism spectrum disorder. Titled Autism Innovations & Global Impact Conference: The State of the Science, the conference will focus on the impact of global autism research from a variety of perspectives: developmental neuroscience and neuroimaging, diagnosis and care of those affected, translation of research to practice across the globe, and the critical importance of prioritizing autism research. Events are open to both public and professionals. CME credits will be available. Students, parents of individuals with ASD, and CARD (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) staff receive 20% off admission.

For more information, or to register, visit www.elsforautismglobalconf.org or check out their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/elsforautism.

For our part, ADC will continue to support this important work through our quarterly donations and by helping raise awareness where we can. To that end, during the month of April, we’ll be giving away autism awareness products each week on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/AmericanDiagnostic, and we’ll add the full retail value of each donated item to this period’s Els for Autism donation. Giveaways will begin soon!
